This is my story.
And I’m not telling my story because it’s different. I’m telling it because I know that many of you are just like me.
I had two beautiful children who were my life…and still are. I worked with my husband in his business. I also had my own business and volunteered on school council, and filled our off hours with entertaining and hobbies and interests.
To an outsider, I had all the components of a great life.
But something was off.
And then I woke up one day and it’s like a switch flipped.
It’s not like anything happened.
There was no milestone to indicate something was wrong.
No big accumulation of events that got me to this place.
I just woke up one day to the realization that I felt empty.
There was no sense of connection within myself, no clarity for the future and no fulfillment.
This is the place where you are stuck feeling not enough and continuously comparing yourself to others. Constantly try to be perfect and you’re exhausted. And where you’re so consumed by making other people happy that you don’t even know what you want anymore.
And how I got to this place is by taking a few small steps at a time…one tiny choice after another…systematically putting myself last and losing myself in the process.
And then it hit me.
I don’t think I’m supposed to be last.
So I made a lot of changes. And I took a really long look in the mirror. And then I found some help along the way.
Now I know who I am. I’m connected, grounded and free to just be myself. And that’s made all the difference.
Because in the end you’re just going to have to let go of who you THINK you should be and just be who you are.
In the end, you only have one life.
